AI DEVELOPMENT
Google Unveils Experimental AI Capable of Reasoning
Google has launched Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking Experimental, a new AI model that pauses to "think" through complex problems, similar to OpenAI's o1 model, but with faster performance and no cost.
Key details:
The model displays its reasoning process when solving problems, akin to other reasoning models like OpenAI's o1.
Built on Gemini 2.0 Flash, early users report significantly quicker performance compared to competing models.
The model enhances computation time to refine reasoning, resulting in longer but potentially more accurate answers.
It is currently ranked #1 on the Chatbot Arena across all categories and is available for free via AI Studio, the Gemini API, and Vertex AI.
Why it matters: As the competition for superior AI reasoning capabilities heats up, Google is joining OpenAI and others in exploring novel approaches beyond just scaling model size. While OpenAI raises prices for its top-tier models, Google is taking the opposite approach by offering its best AI tools for free.

AI FUN FACT
DID YOU KNOW?
The first computer virus, called "Creeper," was created in the early 1970s. It was designed not to harm but to display the message, "I'm the creeper, catch me if you can!" It was followed by the creation of the first antivirus program, "Reaper," which was designed to catch and delete the Creeper virus.
